The goal of the TSH Religious School is to create a nurturing, enjoyable and enriching program for students and their families. We are building a curriculum that will encourage community learning and sharing amongst our students, challenge the students as well as encourage creativity, and address different learning styles.

The Education Committee has been working to create the new school curriculum and has begun planning for the 2010-2011 school year. Included in these preparations is the Registration form, now available on this site, and expanding the multi-age, creative curriculum for our students. Hebrew School classes will meet once a week on Wednesdays and the Holiday School will meet once a month on Wednesdays. Our Young Adult Program is for our post-Bar and Bat Mitzvah students. A separate mailing will follow to all families enrolled in the programs with the school calendar.

Enrollment for the Hebrew School and Holiday Pre-School/ Kindergarten is ongoing. Registration forms can be downloaded from our website.

Enrollment for the Hebrew School and Holiday Pre-School/ Kindergarten is ongoing. A registration fee of $200 for members, and $250 for non-members for the Holiday School and $700 (and $650 for additional children) for grades 1 and over is required with registration in order to hold a place in the class. Please send in your registration forms so we can accurately plan for the next school year. Registration forms can be downloaded from our website. Temple membership is required for people enrolling in the Hebrew School.

The Education Committee is looking for people to join us in this exciting adventure. If you are interested, you can email Linda or Vickie at education@templeshirhadash.org. We had a great time last year planning, chatting, eating (always!), and creating. If you are looking for a rewarding experience with a positive impact on your children, this is a committee for you.

Temple Shir Hadash has exciting and creative religious school programs for children of all ages. Preschoolers and kindergarten children attend our Holiday School Children in grades 1 and up attend our Hebrew School.

The TSH Holiday School program for preschool and kindergarten will meet once a month on a Wednesday, and classes are 1½ hours. The Holiday School curriculum is designed around the major Jewish Holidays and is taught through stories, arts and crafts and music. Parent attendance is requested for the preschool class. Kindergarten parents are asked to participate with their children during the last 15 minutes of each class to share some of the beautiful customs of Shabbat.

Our Hebrew School offers a dynamic and progressive curriculum, instilling a love of the Jewish culture, religion and community. Bible, Torah, Hebrew reading and writing, Jewish history, customs, and current events are all part of our comprehensive curriculum. Hebrew instruction begins in grade 1, which is our Aleph class.

Our pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah students will learn to chant from the Torah the year before their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. They will attend a series of creative Family Education programs that together provide a very rich experience for the students and their families as they prepare to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Our professional teaching staff is committed to making these years of learning through an enriching, warm and welcoming environment. The TSH Hebrew School program will meet once a week on Wednesdays from 4-6pm. The children approaching Bar/Bat Mitzvah will have additional class time throughout the year.

The Family Education Committee has a school library for Temple Shir Hadash. You can donate books or money toward the purchase of books for the Temple Shir Hadash school library. Donations can be made out to Temple Shir Hadash with a note stating "School Book Fund." We also welcome donations of used Jewish holiday story books that your family might have outgrown.

This is a very exciting year for TSH Family Education, and we look forward to sharing upcoming developments during the year.

We have a wish list of books and boom boxes that we would like to share with the congregation. If a family wishes to donate a book, we will place a bookplate with the name in the front of the book.

Here is the Wish List:

  • The Shofar that Lost its Voice, by David Fass

  • The World's Birthday, by Barbara Goldin

  • One Little Goat: A Passover Story, by Marilyn Hirsh

  • About Belonging, by Molly Cone

  • The Mitzvah Mouse, by David Goodman

  • Yael and the Queen of Goats, by Margalit Banai

  • And Shira Imagined, by Giora Carmi

  • Israel Is, by Suan Remick Topek

Please contact our Education Department if you are interested in donating an item or with any other questions. You can contact them via e-mail at education@templeshirhadash.org.
